Social Security is Socialism. Medicaid is Socialism. Medicare is Socialism. We have socialized Police and Fire Departments, Roads and Bridges, aspects of our Health Care System. Yet, you demonize Socialism.

i don't mean this in the usual snarky or sarcastic manner. i'm genuinely curious and confused about the anti-socialist neo-mccarthyism that is sweeping the nation,

Personally, I have always viewed socialism in a very scientific manner.  there are a lot of problems in socialism, but I believe with the current view, and in what I believe to be the start of the collapse of modern capitalism; we could give socialism another look.

I think it would be ridiculous to say, "Well this is the definition of socialism via the encyclopedia, lets use this one.".

I think this conversation alone has proved that, we as a people, are in fact lighting that flame again.

The dreamer in me says why replace one broken system with another?

We are entering a new area, and one in which there is no room for modern capitalism. capitalistic practices are unethical and unsustainable, and with our current population growth, completely unrealistic. we are doubling our population every 40 years. it used to take us 150,000 years to double. the strain this is putting on infrastructure and resources is just now coming to a head, and as bad as it is getting now, it's only going to get worse.

personally, i believe the only way forward is a autonomy. or at least as much autonomy as is possible. DIY infrastructure and sustainable communities are the only thing that can ween us from Mother Cultures teet. the only thing that can save us from the boot heel of capitalism.

i will admit that i am leery of Socialism with a capital S, that the idea of turning over MORE power to the state is unthinkable. however i have read a few reports that implement an Anarcho-Socialist strategy to community goods and resources, which may not be an entirely horrible idea.

and that is exactly what appeals to me about anarch(ism). it is the one system (for lack of a better word) that allows room for all other isms. in an anarchist society, you can have a socialist neighborhood next to a communist one, which is next to a capitalist neighborhood, which is next to a egalitarian neighborhood.

it is the only way i can see to allow people to essentially govern themselves. or in the very least, choose how they wish to be governed.
